The Story in the Picture: Results From the Photo Contest

The formula have been in! We have a winner

AT THE END of October we ran a photography contest where we asked readers to send in a print which told a multitude of stories. The original callout is here; a deadline was Nov 28. The prize: Rough Guides ultimate coffee list offering: Make The Most Of Your Time On Earth: 1000 Ultimate Travel Experiences.

The panel of 3 judges including myself as well as Matador U Photography faculty Lola Akinmade as well as Paul Sullivan debated as well as came up with a transparent winner, although had opposite opinions after which one.

And a leader is (drumroll please)

Beatrice Murch

Judges comments

Lola Akinmade: A enthralling photograph which tells a story contingency first elicit feelings of oddity as well as wonder, in any box of how technically undiluted or not it is, as well as Beatrices shot did just which for me. we was now pulled into a midst of a scene, wondering what they were all seeking during as well as which citation (whatever it is) was coming from. And a best part? The lady in red doing her own thing with a cat.

Paul Sullivan: This print done me giggle immediately. Theres something positively farcical about a stage as well as additionally about us as human beings (especially those of us who carry cameras) which creates this a single of a all-too-rare examples of humor in photography. Theres a sniff of Martin Parr about it, who is a single of my favourite British photographers, as well as poser as well (what have been they all so unfortunate to photograph?) as well as although its not ideally composed it does have peace as well as change as well as it some-more than creates up for such technicalities with character in any case. A black as well as white chronicle would be nice.

Carlo Alcos: The humourousness of a situation struck me s! traight away, along with a suspicion of WTF (which, we figure, is always a good reaction)? The man in a suit offers a contrast to a alternative photogs ready to go in your typical tourist gear. The incompatible angles of a photographers cameras is interesting, revelation a story of how otherwise any of us views a world. It would have been undiluted if a cat wasnt in a photo, making it even some-more mysterious.

Lolas second pick

Anthony Cengia

Lola: There was something intensely suggestive about this shot which now grabbed me; a rainbow colored umbrella, a sepia tinge classical character of a shot, a group ready to go in business clothes as well as trenchcoats. Very interesting as well as multi-layered.

Pauls second pick

Dustin Main

Paul: Another simple but good constraint which says a lot about society in a single quick shot.

Carlos second pick

Marissa Spiegel

Carlo: Again, it was a WTF cause which drew me in straight away. And good timing to have a camera ready during just a right moment.

Congratulations Beatrice! And thanks so much to everybody who submitted an entry.
