THE SOCIETY of American Travel Writers Foundation awarded Matador a Silver for Travel Journalism Sites in a 2010 Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition.

The Foundation records which these awards are similar to a Putlitzer Prizes for transport journalism. They are:

  • open to all North American journalists, not only SATW members, and
  • judged independently by a faculty during top U.S. schools of journalism

I was stoked to review a judges comments, particularly a mention of MatadorU:

Matador is some-more than only a high-quality online transport site. It is a good community of transport enthusiasts who mix expert recommendation as well as internal believe by blogs, forums as well as destination pages. The network goes beyond creating a place to total eyeballs as well as poor user-generated calm for advertisers. Its unique Matador U is directed during assisting get better as well as not only some-more transport calm on a Web. The precision as well as recommendation in MatadorU is a model which other fields of broadcasting should examine.

Although individual Matadorians have won Lowell Thomas Awards in a past, this was a initial time which Matador itself was recognized.
